I married a Filipina and it took a little over a year to get her here with me , most of the time is for filing and background checks.

I am going to tell you what to do, go to the Canadian Embassy in Manila website , download the forms now so you will know what paper work you need, like police clearance from the cities where you lived ( if you lived in 4 cities you will need a clearance from all 4) just be careful of the dates you need them if I remember right it can not be more than 6 months old at the time of visa processing . Aslo you will need to have a up to date background done by the Philippine government , which I do not have to tell you can take time , so the best advice I can give you is , check out the requirements for each step(a form) and make your pinch list from that . There are a lot of small thing that will slow you down if you are not careful , every mistake means they send the form back to you and you need to refile it , wasting time . It is a good idea to start with 3 files , blank forms , documents you need to file a form (picture, original copy of birth, passport , back grounds and all the other fun stuff they ask for ) and most important copy of everything that you send , and receive. ( It is so important to keep track of everything or you will be waiting.

It is not hard to do as long as you and your new husband work together , time is important when you are waiting on some paper your case is not moving . I learned alot of this the hard way. And keep checking on stuff if it should take 6 weeks for processing track it on line and when that 7th week comes call and find out what is holding it up, I hate to say this but paperwork does get misplaced on both ends (Phil /Cana)so copies are life savers and so are your conformation numbers that can be the diffrent between few days or 2 months . If you keep good records and it is easy to correct a mess up. If you should misfile something it is not the end of the world just make sure the right person knows about it ASAP, leaving messages are ok get the person name and ID number who took the message .
