German Women For Marriage

Why does the women only have to take a blood test for marriage?
I am gettting married in Indiana and the requirement is that the woman has to take a blood test for Rubella (german measles). First of all, why only the woman? Second of all, why is it required anyway? It’s not like they can tell you you can’t get married if you have it!
Because rubella can be passed from a pregnant woman to her unborn child and cause numerous complications, including miscarriage. And generally, women who get married also plan to get pregnant eventually. It’s a public health measure.
Most states have gotten rid of their blood test laws. I couldn’t tell you why Indiana has kept theirs. But yes, the state of Indiana can refuse to issue you a marriage license if you don’t complete the necessary tests.
