Why is it bad luck to set your purse on the floor?

From my experience as a latina I hear that it’s bad luck to place your purse on the floor. I know it’s a old wives tale but what’s the logic in it? Where did it originate? Any other cultures beside latin ones perpetuate the same thing?

Well, it’s not bad luck, it’s really a bad idea to put a purse on the floor. For one, someone can steal it and you won’t even know. Second, the bottom of your purse will contain millions of bacteria (especially if you put it on the public bathroom floor). Third, if you purse falls over, some stuff can fall out and then be eventually kick all over the place.
